An online training session was organised by the Kashmir team for a group of 20 youth on the theme “Recognizing true leadership roles amidst the pandemic.” The session was facilitated by Omar Hafiz, a renowned development practitioner based in Kashmir. Mr Hafiz indicated many manageable ways through which youth can play leadership roles during these challenging times like educating families, friends and community, circulating reliable information, dismantle stigma and myths about COVID, volunteering, advocate for marginalised people and most importantly be a source of calm during this storm.

Shaista, one of the participants, engaged about 10 girls from her village in Kawpora, Kashmir in embroidery work so that they can earn some income. Another participant, Ghulam Hassan mobilized his group of friends and hosted a donation drive. They collected and mobilized essential items door to door within their community and distributed them to 200 needy families in their village in Kawpora. This is their way of giving back to the community. They also hosted a sanitation drive as preventive action against COVID.
