A HANDBOOK ON STREET VENDORS ACT 2014

Street vendors are intrinsic to life in all urban spaces. Whether old heritage markets, cheap street food, seasonal stalls or service-based hawkers millions of city dwellers turn to these vendors for almost every day needs. Ironically, the lives of these vendors are tormented by the constant threat of evictions by municipal officials, bribes, police harassment, etc. Street Vendors all over the country face lives of uncertainty.

With an attempt to educate street vendors as well as the municipal official and the public about the rights and entitlements of Street Vendors, IGSSS together with National Hawkers Federation (NHF) prepared a Handbook to provide information on the Street Vendors Act, 2014. The Act is a pioneering initiative to protect the livelihood rights and social security of urban street vendors in the country and thereby aid the poverty alleviation efforts of the Government.
